It all started from home

Lukkaroinen was established by Pekka Lukkaroinen in 1980. To begin with, the one-man home office in Oulu, northern Finland, focused mainly on land-use planning for nearby municipalities.

The number of building design projects grew steadily, and the need for more staff and larger premises became evident. By early 1990s, the customer base had expanded from the Oulu region to include other areas of northern Finland. For the first time, the number of employees exceeded ten.

Through the recession

The 1990s recession hit Finland and the construction sector in particular extremely hard. The company came through the recession by adjusting its operations and winning new commissions through successfully participating in architectural competitions.

As soon as the economy began its recovery, the company’s order books started filling up again and its service offering could be expanded. The share of public buildings, such as hospitals and schools, in the company’s new assignments grew rapidly.

New millennium, new growth

Entering the new millennium, Lukkaroinen had established itself as one of the leading architectural practices in Oulu. Its market area also expanded to cover the whole of Finland. In the 2010s, Lukkaroinen strengthened its foothold in the Helsinki metropolitan area by establishing an office in the capital and acquiring the shares of Visionar Architects.

In 2016, Lukkaroinen acquired its long-term collaboration partner, the highly-regarded interior design firm Ervasti, thereby adding interior design into its service portfolio.

Competition victories, customers and dedicated staff

Over the years, Lukkaroinen has grown into a company of nearly 60 employees, who are happy to take on even the biggest of challenges and execute them with great professionalism. We owe our success to our long-term customers, a good track record in architectural competitions and our dedicated and skilled staff.
